Sweet 16

Larry Hillman is the youngest player to have his named engraved on the Stanley Cup. He was only 18 years, two months, and nine days old when his Detroit Red Wings won the Cup in 1955. But is Hillman the youngest-ever winner of the Stanley Cup?

Percival Molson is almost certainly the youngest person to win the trophy. He was only 16 years and 135 days old when he won the Cup with the Montreal Victorias in 1896. In those days, players’ names were not inscribed on the Cup. Today, the Montreal Alouettes of the CFL play their home games at Percival Molson Stadium, which officially opened in 1919.

Did You Know?

Percival Molson Memorial Stadium in Montreal, named after Olympian and Stanley Cup–winner Percival Molson, is probably the oldest Canadian site dedicated to a sports star. It officially opened on October 25, 1919.
